Growing and Maintaining Christmas Cactus for Longevity

1. Blooming Period
The Christmas cactus, scientifically known as Schlumbergera and native to Brazil, is renowned for its vibrant flowers that bloom just before the year-end festivities. Between December and January, the cactus adorns itself with colorful flowers ranging from pink to red and purple to red-purple. To ensure optimal blooming, shield the cactus from drafts and heat sources, avoiding placement near frequently opened doors or close to fireplaces, stoves, or radiators.
2. Ideal Placement
Maintain an indoor temperature of around 20°C for the Christmas cactus, placing it in a bright room during winter to prolong its flowering. In summer, consider a semi-shaded outdoor spot to prevent leaf burn from excessive sun exposure. As autumn approaches, bring the plant indoors to anticipate reduced daylight hours and sunshine, promoting flowering during the Christmas period.
