Growing a Cherry Tree from the Core: Quick and Easy Method

If you’re eager to have a cherry tree in your garden without waiting for months, here’s a simple method using the cherry core. Follow these steps to bring a cherry tree to life in just 7 days:

Materials Needed:

  • Ripe cherries
  • Nutcracker
  • Soil
  • Pot or garden space

Procedure:

  1. Select Ripe Cherries: Choose very ripe cherries with a beautiful deep red color. Riper cherries are more likely to have suitable seeds for germination.
  2. Remove and Clean the Core: Eat or cut the cherry to remove the pit. Clean the core thoroughly, ensuring no pulp remains. The more cores you collect, the more plants you can grow.
  3. Crack the Core: Use a nutcracker to create a small crack or remove the hard parts surrounding the embryo. This step accelerates the germination process.
  4. Sow the Core: In a pot filled with soil, create a small hole approximately one centimeter deep using a teaspoon. Place the cracked core or embryo into the hole, cover it, and water the soil. Keep the soil consistently moist until the first bud appears.
  5. Germination: If using a cracked core, the seedling should start to appear within a month or forty days. If using the fully intact seed, germination may take five to six months.
  6. Seedling Growth: After about 40 days, you’ll notice a root emerging from the ground, and the seedling will be around two centimeters long. Within a week, the first leaves will appear. By the fifteenth day, the plant should measure approximately ten centimeters and start developing leaves.
  7. Continued Growth: Over the following months, you’ll observe additional growth, with the primary development happening in the root system during the first year.
  8. Grafting for Fruit Production: When the plant reaches a height of about one and a half meters, and the diameter of the central stem is around two centimeters, consider grafting. Grafting can promote the production of large and tasty fruits.

By following this method, you can enjoy the beauty of a cherry tree in your garden in a relatively short time. Happy gardening!
