Discover how to create a natural fertilizer quickly and easily using ingredients you already have at home!

To achieve lush blooms and vibrant plants, sometimes you need to give them a little extra help with fertilizers. These products act as vital supplements, providing essential nutrients for your plants and soil, enabling them to thrive.
Ingredients for a Homemade Fertilizer
As mentioned, you only need two ingredients that you likely discard after use. We’re talking about coffee grounds and onion peels—both packed with vitamins and minerals that promote plant growth.
Using Coffee Grounds and Onion Peels
If you usually toss out your coffee grounds after brewing, consider saving them! They have numerous uses, including serving as a natural fertilizer. Simply place the coffee grounds in an open container and let them dry in a non-humid area, preferably sunny, until they turn into a dry powder. As for onion peels, any type will do—just ensure they’re stored in a cool and dry place. Let’s explore how to use these two ingredients to make your fertilizer.
How to Make Fertilizer

To create your homemade fertilizer, you’ll work with the two ingredients separately before combining them. The process is straightforward, and in just 24 hours, you’ll have a powerful boost for your plants.
Coffee Grounds for Natural Fertilizer

- Take 5 tablespoons of dried coffee grounds and place them in a container.
- Add 1 liter of water, maintaining the 5 tablespoons to 1 liter ratio as needed.
- Mix thoroughly and let it rest for 24 hours in an open container.
- After 24 hours, filter the mixture through a cloth, allowing only the liquid to pass through. You can reuse the remaining solid grounds in your compost.
Onion Peels to Make Fertilizer

- Cut onion peels into small pieces or crumble them by hand.
- Place a few handfuls into a container and add 1 liter of water.
- Let the mixture rest for 24 hours in an open container. After this time, you’ll notice the water has taken on a reddish hue.
- Strain the mixture into another container.
Combining the Ingredients
Once you have both components, mix them well to create a concentrated fertilizer rich in magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, iron, and copper. To use it, dilute the mixture to 50%—for every liter of fertilizer, add a liter of water. Apply this natural fertilizer to all your plants every 15 days to encourage lush blooms and vibrant growth!
